UHS Students and Teachers Local Experts in Conjola Environmental Management

Dr Kneeshaw discussing the impacts of the fires

“What’s that skat?” Asked students as they undertook fieldwork on the property of Dr Samantha Kneeshaw and learned about how she survived the fires and has managed the recovery there. Year 10 Geography students from classes Yellow and Indigo visited sites impacted by the 2019/2020 fires at Conjola for their Environmental Management Research Plans.

Students developed and tested their own hypothesises to gain perspectives and first-hand understanding of the impacts, change and management of aspects of flora, fauna and human usages, with the aim of identifying additional management strategies which could be used in local regeneration efforts. Special excitement came from discovery of ‘Wombat City’ tunnel complex and exploring the sand dunes and sea bird habitats with Anna Jarrett. Students also conducted water samples with Emily Wilford and enjoyed hot chips for lunch.
