Ulladulla High School ANZAC Day Moving Ceremony

Didge Crew performing

Ulladulla High School honoured the ANZAC spirit with a moving ceremony in week 11, led with dignity by School Captain Jordan Magi and School Leader Elsie Foster. The school community came together in a powerful tribute that combined tradition, creativity, and cultural recognition, making it a standout event in the local commemorative calendar. The ceremony featured a series of unforgettable performances that reflected the ongoing significance of ANZAC Day. Drama and dance students presented emotionally charged pieces that paid homage to the courage and sacrifice of those who served. The circus performers delivered a striking visual performance, set to an original poem written and read by Faith Nevin, whose words added great depth to the moment.

We honour their memory, we remember their fight / for they are the Anzacs, shining bright..

The service also included several outstanding musical contributions. Loki Smart gave a stirring live performance of The Last Post and The Rouse, providing a moment of solemn reflection. Chloe Hamilton delivered a series of beautiful and moving musical pieces, which resonated deeply with the audience. Miribi Bunbal (the didgeridoo ensemble), supported by orators Xavier Gowan and Bella Watson; and Bunaan Yandabal (our First Nations dance troop) added a powerful cultural dimension to the service. Their performances honoured First Nations contributions to Australia's military history and connected the audience to Country in a deeply respectful and meaningful way.

We fought alongside you and though some things changed,

We were still denied citizenship in our own land

Entertainment students supported the ceremony behind the scenes, ensuring everything ran smoothly and respectfully. Big Picture students also played an important role, contributing to the overall success of the event through their preparation and support on the day. A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the prestigious Spirit of ANZAC Awards, which this year were awarded to Darcy Stewart (Senior) and Rosie Stephen (Junior). Both students were recognised for their commitment to the values of courage, mateship, and service. Special guests from the Milton-Ulladulla Ex-Servos Club and the Milton-Ulladulla RSL Sub Branch were in attendance and warmly acknowledged during the service. Their ongoing support continues to be an essential part of commemorations at Ulladulla High School. This year’s ANZAC ceremony was a heartfelt and dignified tribute, showcasing the school’s commitment to remembrance, respect, and community. It was a day to reflect, connect, and honour those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
