NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Special religious education
SRE is voluntary and schools organise SRE according to parent preferences at, or subsequent to, enrolment.
To assist with the organisation for Scripture and Non Scripture classes parents are asked to indicate their intentions.
At Ulladulla High School scripture is a timetabled period for Year 7, 8 and 9 students. A fully qualified teacher is employed by the combined Christian churches in our community to teach a curriculum that represents beliefs shared by Catholic and Protestant churches in a way that is relevant to today’s teenagers. https://thinkfaith.com.au/
In addition, to enhance the delivery of SRE at Ulladulla High School, we also offer Buddhism as an option. Although Buddhism is relatively new in Australia, it is one of the fastest growing religions in the country. The classes would be delivered by accredited and experienced teachers of Buddhism, with all associated requirements for working with our students. The classes will follow the guidance of the Buddhist Council of NSW.
The Buddhism scripture period for Year 7, 8 and 9, will be offered to align with the timetable and is one day per week. However, be aware, the program is only running one day per week therefore some students may miss out. All care and consideration will be taken to formulate the best fit.
Students whose parents have chosen non-scripture will be accommodated in a classroom with an allocated teacher. Please encourage your student to continue to be responsible and bring reading material or class work to be completed in the non-scripture period.
