SSO Weekly Spotlight with Emile and Matt

Our Year 9 students will start the Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) program this week as part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing. This course will teach the students how to recognise and respond to mental health challenges among their peers. The program equips students with practical skills to: - Identify warning signs of mental health problems - Support friends who may be struggling - Access appropriate adult help when needed - Develop strategies for their own mental wellbeing. The program content is specifically designed for teenagers and addresses real-world situations they may encounter. We would like to thank Headsapace Nowra for helping facilitate the program.

PCYC Fit for Life is on again this term and kicked off with another great effort last week. PCYC Fit for Life is an early intervention program designed to engage with youth aged 10 to 17. Through physical fitness, nutrition and social engagement, PCYC Fit for Life aims to improve overall wellbeing while also focusing on preventing and diverting youth from risk taking behaviours and the making of poor choices. PCYC Fit for Life builds positive relationships and focuses on the wellbeing of young people. Students are put through their paces with a range of different exercises, before being rewarded with a healthy snack, water and a chance to discuss a number of issues important to young people. Year 7-Year 10 students commenced the program in week 2 and will attend every Friday for the remainder of the term.

PAIS volunteers Kadu Bardan Jessi and Tamara

Welcome to the Pais volunteers who have just started at Ulladulla High and will be here for a year as part of the Wellbeing Team.

I am Kadu. I am 28 years old and come from Nepal. I came here to volunteer together with the Pais organisation. My hobbies are playing the guitar, photography, videography, editing, basketball and making crafts with children. Before I came here I worked as a technician. I am very happy to be here and to be a part of this team! I am looking forward to learning a lot and share my experience and knowledge with others.

Hey everyone! My name is Bardan, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Nepal. I am an automobile sub engineer. Regarding my hobbies I love to play guitar, bass & the drums… In the next 12 months I am going to volunteer at UHS and hope to have a positive impact on you here.

Hello, I am Jessi. I am 19 years old and I come from the south of Germany, but I am nearly a real Aussie. The only thing missing is a love for Vegemite, but I am working on it. I have it in my heart to serve the school and community in a positive way. That's why I am going to help around the school and run youth groups and other events. I love spending time with people, being creative, playing the piano & guitar, reading books and going on outdoors & ocean adventures. I am looking forward to becoming a part of your school community and getting to know you all.

My name is Tamara, I’m 18 years old and come from the southern part of Germany. I graduated high school before I came to Australia to work with Pais. Im a passionate singer and was part of a band back in Germany. I am also a big sports fan, especially volleyball and soccer have my heart and I would love to learn surfing here.

I am looking forward to serving at UHS and to support you in every way we can.

This week we have Brett Murray from Life Choices doing a presentation about bullying. All year 7 students will meet in the hall on Thursday session 4 to hear Bretts story and learn about identifying what bullying is, why people bully and how we can stop it.

On Friday 24th May 2024, Year 10 attended an educational talk conducted by Senior Constable Donna Clarke, Youth Engagement Officer, from NSW Police Force Youth Command. Senior Constable Clarke shared information about respectful relationships and consent, the do’s and don’ts of social media usage and what happens to young people if they choose to act in a criminal manner.
