Celebrating ‘For our Elders’.

NAIDOC morning tea cake

As the sweet smell of frying fish, fragrant wattle seed and soft smoky air filled the space, our teachers and students gathered in our Aboriginal garden for our NAIDOC morning tea.

Aunty Nellie with staff

This was the coming together for NAIDOC week, to celebrate our elders and acknowledge the land in which we all learn, grow, and develop upon. Auntie Nellie, Uncle John and all our OCHRE team spent last week alongside our students making art, writing, playing music, football games and creating connections. The morning tea was the culmination of the week’s festivities, as we all sat to enjoy our morning tea. Three large black glossy cockatoos flew over our heads, they screeched and stretched as they made their presence felt, these cockatoos are Aunty Nellies totem. It was a timely reminder of our need to ensure we care and connect to the country we live in. Our NAIDOC assembly is this Friday, and we look forward to seeing and feeling the performances prepared for the very special assembly. #NAIDOC2023 #Totem #BlackGlossy
