“Swords” Debating Challenge

On Friday the 17th of November, 4 UHS students from Year 10 travelled North to participate in the "SWORDS" Debating Challenge hosted by the University of Wollongong. The team, comprised of Jordan Magi, Tara Laraghy, Amy Bruce and Lara Young, were an interesting mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced debaters. The girls were quite anxious about facing teams from all over the Illawarra region but managed to win three from three debates to come out triumphant at the close of the competition. They debated on topics regarding science, education and socio-economics and worked well together as a team to produce logical, powerful arguments. The girls embraced the challenges of the day, all under the supportive guidance of their teacher, Ms McCutcheon. We are very proud of these inspirational young women.
