It was a rollercoaster ride, the first year of Big Picture (BP) at UHS. Doing anything for the first time often is. BP is a new, alternative way to go about learning. Scary!
While BP Australia was stunned at the progress and standard of work produced by our students, it's not like there weren't some teething issues. We were all (students and advisors alike) challenged by having to "unlearn" how we traditionally went about our learning and teaching...
In BP each student has the opportunity to create their own curriculum, based on their personal interests. The teachers aren't there to tell the students what to do or show them how to do it, but to help each student work that out for themselves. It's why in BP we're know as 'advisors'.
Big Picture has put us all out of our comfort zones.
There have been lots of laughs, some tears, many challenges, and countless triumphs. In short - it's been a trip.
We invite you to share in the journey. - Mr Richo
