Cultural group excursion

'Maui Maui' performers

On 29 August, 13 students from the Pacifika Huihui group travelled to Sydney Opera house to watch the production ‘Māui’. Māui focuses on retelling the life and tales of the Polynesian hero and Demi God Māui through a wide mix of dance styles, from traditional Pacific dance, Kapa Haka, Hip-Pop, Contemporary Music, singing, Te Reo Māori, spoken words and projected animation.

The performance was truly inspiring to our group, showing and telling us that Māui is not only a Māori character but his footprints are all over the Pacific. This also opened our eyes to a whole different world, leaving most of the group with chills and a sense of feeling of being at home whilst being surrounded by other pacific islanders from all across Sydney.

On behalf of the Pasifika Huihui group, I would like to thank Emile & Mrs Watene for taking and looking after us in Sydney and Matt for organising everything.

Fa'afetai (thankyou).
