The two riders who came off in the chaos were both from Ulladulla High School. All UHS students rode and conducted themselves well, with some students showing exceptional grit by improving their speeds as the race went on, despite fatigue setting in. In between laps on this gruelling race riders were catching quick naps and fixing their bikes. Results were outstanding, with Ulladulla High School finishing first in the Junior boys event (riders; Ryan Farr, Tasman Armati and Tim Shephard) and second in the Intermediate mixed team (riders; Brock Williamson, Waineisha Matthews Maling and Corey Smithers) It was a fantastic whole UHS team effort and every rider should be proud of their contribution. There was also time for a few bike tricks, with Chase Minos winning the “mono” competition and scoring himself a bottle of cheap cologne as a prize. The team spirit continued at day’s end with parents chipping in to help pack up the shelters and Corey Smithers hooking up the trailer, before we all came home exhausted and with a haul of medals. We will be back next year bigger and better – next year we want all the female riders in the school to team up and bring home more gold!
