Our UHS Alumni Project and the stories of our ALUMNI

Alumni Stories

As you return you will see around the school some large posters that are stories about our past students. ‘Alumni’ is the word that is used which we refer to as past students. You will all be part of our Alumni one day. The stories are so varied, from Amanda who has played for Australia in world cup American Grid Iron, and now works for SHELL as Property Project Manager with million dollar fit outs, Elli, another Alumni who is now a Graphic Designer who landed a job with Nasty Gal in LA, this was her dream job. Ever since studying - she wanted to work there and the owner of the company was her biggest hero (Sophia Amorouso), they are now good friends. Another, Jarrah has just finished his PHD in researching the cutting-edge ocean energies through Wave Engineering. Essentially answering the question, how can we harness wave energy as a source of power?. Jarrah is now based in the UK with an Australian Company. Jarrah calls his PHD - a posh term that basically describes the process of a few years research on something you are very curious about, his curiosity was wave energy. A keen surfer and ocean lover, Jarrah has turned his curiosity into a career and a living. Another Kalindi, is a current Australian Hockeyroo and will head off to the Tokyo Olympics. Kalindi also has a Bachelor of Communication in Journalism. A career that is intertwined in her passion. Sophie Johnston is currently the Youth Commission with the National Youth Commission of Australia. Of course you will also see on the posters a couple of local hero's, graduates of our school who have made their mark on the world and returned to live in our community and raise their own children here. They were once like you, students at Ulladulla High School. You too can make your mark on the world.

So what are the words of encouragement from our Alumni …..

Take time figuring out what you like to do, which skills you are best at and what you are not so good at.

Brett Burcher said ‘Stay in the present and don’t dwell on the past or future’!

‘Anything is possible, the hungrier you are, the more that

is true’. Elli Zacharowitz 2007

‘Try your best at everything. If you have to do it anyway you may as well do your best and whatever happens, you know you couldn’t have done any better, so you can be proud of your efforts’! Helen Gibson 2013

Jarrah said- ‘Expose yourself to as many situations and experiences as possible, make mistakes and learn’. Class of 2010

And 'Don’t wait for handouts. Grab opportunities in front of you’! Hockeroo Kalindi

And finally, - Sophies words.. ‘Be bold in how you approach opportunity’!
