Kids have fun at Coolendel

Students building a raft at Coolendel

On Tuesday 11 November, 170 students and 20 staff headed off to Coolendel for the much-awaited Year 7 camp. The camp required all students to pitch a tent and camp for three nights. Throughout the week students enjoyed a wide range of activities. Some favourites were canoeing, ropes, raft-building, rock climbing, zip-lining, cooling off in the river and, of course, the great possum wrestle.

It was great to see the enthusiasm, big smiles on faces and students stepping outside their comfort zone. What was most rewarding was the teamwork shown by the students as they worked together to overcome challenges and encourage each other to be their best.

Coolendel will be remembered by these students for a long time to come. Who could forget the war cries, the dancing for every single meal to those three catchy tunes, making new friends and seeing a different side of the teachers?

A big congratulations to Granties Gremlins, who worked seamlessly as a team to bring home the Coolendel trophy. A special mention to the Ruthless Rothquels who finished as runners-up.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of Mrs Wheatley, Ms Young and Mr McDonell for making Coolendel camp such a successful and memorable camp. They even organised some great weather! Thanks also to the Optimum Experience instructors for the awesome activities, Shoalbus for getting us there and back safely and, finally, to all the UHS staff who gave up their time and energy to support our Year 7 students.
