Science and Engineering Competition

Year 9 students competing

On Thursday 1 August, 20 Year 9 and 10 students travelled to UOW to compete in the Science and Engineering Competition. This was an exciting event that brought together students from various schools to explore and engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.

Year 10 students

Students participated in a range of hands-on activities designed to challenge their problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity skills. The activities included advanced problem-solving and construction of wind turbines, aircraft, fish traps, earthquake towers, and electrical circuits in which UHS students had wins in numerous categories. The all-day bridge-building challenge was also won by UHS students. Each challenge was crafted to encourage critical thinking and collaboration, providing students with a taste of real-world engineering and scientific problem-solving. The event fostered a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition, as students worked together to complete the challenges and earn points for their school. The students had a great day and hopefully, we will see this becoming an annual competition for UHS students.
