Seismometers back up and running!

We have been lucky to have one of ANU's (Australian National University) seismometers installed at our school since 2014. It is part of the "seismometers in school" or AuSIS which ANU coordinate and run. Unfortunately out seismometer has been out of action for a year but thanks to the very talented TSO Blake at UHS and Dr Sima Mousavi, they were able to reconnect to the system. We are now looking forward to observing the tremours picked up by our system.

The Australian Seismometers in Schools project (AuSIS) is an outreach program to install 50 research quality broadband seismometers in Australian Schools. The goal of the program is to raise awareness of geoscience through observing our dynamic earth in motion. Students are required to look after their own...earthsciences.anu.edu.au

In addition to fixing the seismometer, Dr Mousavi spent session 3 with the two Year 12 Earth Science classes, delivering an very interesting lecture on Seismologists to the students. Here are some of the students in the lecture.
