We've had some great questions from parents about motivation and organisation. Lockdown learning is presenting challenges for us all. When our Wellbeing Team got together recently they discussed how we can answer these questions and support our fabulous parents. This little video takes you through the main ideas.
In a nutshell:
- step into parenting with the quality of ‘honouring’ the people that your children are. Over time check in with your behaviour to see if it potentially over or under involved as aiming for that ‘goldilocks’ moment of being ‘just good enough’.
- Be kind to yourself and adjust your expectations to suit the times. Progress may be slower at the moment and that's OK! Structure and routine will help you and your child regain a sense of control and normalcy, and rewards and incentives will help create a sense of accomplishment. Remember to reward effort not just outcome!
- Have routines so that everyone knows what's happening each day.
- Celebrate the positives.
- Find activities that they enjoy, schedule throughout your day. Provide opportunities for them to connect with their friends (even if it is playing computer games).
