It is important to empower our young people to reach out

There is no excuse

One thing we have learnt in 2020, is that the world is a very uncertain place, however, what is certain for us, is when things are not as they should be, our students need to know that adults are here to support them. The research tells us that when something is going wrong in a young person's life, the first place they go to is their friends and secondly they go to a trusted adult.

I encourage all parents to have a compassionate conversation with your child about what happens if something goes wrong, or something happens to them or a friend, or they witness something, or believe people may be hurt, or is against the law or/and is concerning them.
It is good to talk to clarify with your young person about how they should tell someone they trust so that the situation can be fixed, supported or the problem solved. Anything that is of a criminal nature we strongly encourage students, parents and carers to report to the Police Assistance Line. If you are a victim of a crime call the Police Assistance Line (131444) which operates 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
