Six students attended the camp at The Mercure Gerringong for two days of intensive workshops and training in the art of public speaking and debating. Ziad El Togby and Holly Pullinger represented UHS senior debating team and acted as mentors throughout the camp.
Maisie Staples, Neve Lawson, Isabella Vinson (Year 10) and Marcus Pepperell (Year 9) were competing in the Regional finals after winning the far south coast competition. The students took part in a two day knock out against other winning teams from Illawarra and South East Region. Day one our team debated against Wollongong High and won their first round. This placed them against the prestigious Smith Hill High Selective School who have historically always won the Illawarra and South East Regional Competition. Our students put into practice all that they had learned in the workshops and acted on the excellent feedback from the adjudicator from the earlier debate and WON!!!
