How can we protect our environment and meet the growing demand for new homes?

You may have heard about a block of land up for sale in Narrawallee. It's received attention because of a community petition that is asking Council to buy the forest as a 'biobank' to protect its unique biodiversity. Some Year 10 Geography students got to conduct a site study and also explore the adjacent Garrad Reserve and pristine waters of Narrawallee inlet and estuary. They were very grateful to have Greg come along from Shoalhaven Council's Environmental Health team to share his expert insight into how to manage healthy waterways. The Year 10 students will write Environment Management Plans that inform people about different viewpoints and threats to the environment and threatened species found in the area. Each student will put forward their own suggested strategies to balance good outcomes for the environment, as well as economic, social and cultural outcomes. Stay tuned! They have more interviews and research to conduct and then our amazing geographers will undoubtedly come up with some fantastic and informed ideas to meet the needs of our growing town and precious ecosystems.
