On Thursday 25th July, Ms Smith’s Year 10 Computing class and Ms. McGrath’s Year 11 Photography class attended the Academy of Interactive
Entertainment (AIE) in Sydney. The AIE is an awarded 3D animation, visual effects and computer games development and design educator.
The bus set off in the dark at 5:45am and we got to the academy at 10:00. Students were guided around the campus before settling in one of their computer design labs for a practical workshop. We played with Maya software which is used for animation, virtual reality and character creation. During the day students created 3D designs of their names and, after picking up the skills so quickly, modelled a 3D barn or house! It was great to experience and learn about a huge variety of possible careers that incorporate design, film, animation, VFX and coding.
Some quotes for the day were:
“I liked learning new stuff like animation and 3D design.” Billy Forbes
“The best thing was being introduced to industry standard programs and being able to experiment with it ourselves.” Brodie Taylor
“I liked learning about 3D modelling.” Unknown
“24 nuggets and large chips please.” Unknown (an in joke)
“I liked the seriously fun and creatively-demanding studio environment. Students worked in along with the powerful software which students seemed to grasp quite easily.” Ms Smith
Thank you to Ms Smith, Ms McGrath and Ms Gallagher for their time and effort in organising this wonderful day in Sydney for us.
