Retirements all round

Mr Betsis and Mrs Lofts

Not sure if it is the end of an era, or a sign of the times, but we have another group of our staff calling it a day and transitioning to retirement. Wendy, George and Wayne ‘Penno’ will finish up with the Department of Education at the end of this year with over 100 years of combined service to the students of NSW. Bravo and thank you!

Mr Betsis and Mrs Lofts

Mr. Betsis signs off on a high

This year is Mr. Betsis 37th year serving the students of NSW Public Schools. He has dedicated his life to improving learning in mathematics for young people and we are very grateful. George, in his 37th year was awarded the Ministers Award for Excellence in Teaching and has been a pivotal part of the senior exec for over 5 years. I had the pleasure of interviewing him about his career, what he has learnt and what advice he would give young teachers coming into the profession. He has taught across the state from a large school like ours, inner west at Mount Druitt High, coastal Port Macquarie High and also enjoying the far reaches of our state at a central school called Tullamore (130 Ks west of Dubbo) with 120 students from K-12, where he was the HT Secondary Studies. He said, he loved every experience and met some amazing people both students, parents and teachers along the way. He spoke about extraordinary mathematicians he taught as students, ‘wow, some students are just incredible’. George intends to first recharge the batteries and then look to travel back to Greece to catch up with his relatives that he has not seen in years. All the best Mr. Betsis. One of the gold teachers! #ThankyouandAllTheBest From all your UHS Family!

Wendy Hearn

Wendy calls it a day after 24 Years

Mrs. Hearn, one of our long-standing School Administration Officers calls it a day as she signs off after 25 years supporting the students and staff at UHS. Wendy has been a tremendous part of our school, always kind, caring and extremely committed to the school and all the people she supported. In her time at UHS, Wendy has supported 5 principals, dozens of students and teachers, and all in a day’s work. Wendy looks forward to a well-earned break to travel, do some pottery and spend time with the family. #all the best Wendy!
