From 4th-7th September the CHS Athletics Championships were held on the “old” blue Olympic track in Sydney. Seven UHS students, Olivia Greenhalgh, Madison Lavender, Lauren Percival, Harm Schaap, Ben Shephard, Corey Williams and Lily Winward, participated in different events.
Sport can be brutally honest and sometimes you find yourself on the wrong end of luck. Lauren Percival just missed out on a medal by 0.04 of a second, while Corey could have won a silver medal if he had jumped just 1cm further!
If only…, but that doesn’t count in sport.
It’s a great achievement to make it to this level of competition and run, jump and shot put against the best athletes in all the NSW public high schools. Experience gained at these races will make the students better competitors and surely motivate them to work hard again for the next competitions. UHS is proud of all participants and congratulate them on their achievement.
There were four medals won: BRONZE by Harm (1500 metre), TWO BRONZES by Corey (long and high jump) and GOLD by Olivia who ran 800 metres in 2:30 (that’s fast).
The next race will be the All Schools State Athletics Championships this week. We hope the students have a great experience again and we wish them the best of luck!
