Year 8 selective class

Our Year 8 selective class was established in response to an identified need to address the learning (cognitive, emotional and social) needs of gifted and talented (GAT) students in Year 8.

Selective class mission

The selective class is to provide an environment in which all students are challenged and enriched to maximise learning outcomes.

Note: The selective class is not a gifted and talented (GAT) or acceleration class. It is an enrichment class that provides deeper learning within the existing framework of our Year 8 curriculum.

The selection process

The selective class is chosen by a panel using a range of criteria. These criteria include:

  • Standardised testing using an extremal test provider (Australian Council for Educational Research, University of NSW)
  • School-based testing
  • Student self-nomination.

A nomination fee is payable when applying for the selective class. Details regarding application and selection are provided to Year 7 students in early Term 4 for the following year. Testing takes place in mid-term 4 and all students are notified of their results before the end of the year.
