Our Story
This artwork, created by Shane Snelson, tells the story of Ulladulla High School as a meeting place of people, Country, culture and learning.
Didthul Mountain rises in the background, grounding the artwork in the local landscape and connecting the school community to Country. At the other end, the foreshore represents Ulladulla Harbour, reflecting the strong relationship between the school, the coast and the sea.
The six large black-and-white circles represent the six year groups at Ulladulla High School, from Year 7 through to Year 12. Together, they symbolise the journey students make through secondary school and the different stages of learning, growth and development they experience along the way.
The colours flowing throughout the artwork represent the different lands, cultures and experiences that students bring with them. They acknowledge both Saltwater people and Western influences, recognising that students come through different lands, communities and pathways before coming together as part of Ulladulla High School.
The larger C-shaped symbols represent the teachers, while the smaller circular symbols represent the students. Their placement together reflects the important relationships between teachers and young people, and the role teachers play in guiding, supporting and walking alongside students throughout their schooling.
The flowing patterns connecting Didthul, the school community and Ulladulla Harbour represent journey, movement, connection and belonging. Together, the artwork reflects Ulladulla High School as a place where students from different backgrounds come together, are supported by their teachers, and grow within a strong connection to Country, community and place.
